Joel's Jottings: "The Money Talk"

It’s difficult to talk about money. Not just in church. But in our lives and families and communities. Money is a source of so much uncertainty and fear. Just do a Google search for “Difficulty Talking About Money” and see how many responses you get! Here are a couple of interesting articles I found for money as a taboo subject and why money is hard to talk about. You get a lot of results as well for a search for talking about money in church.

But the truth is we do have to talk about our financial resources—in our families and in our churches.

At Fondren Presbyterian Church we are completing our 2023 stewardship campaign. We are conducting it now because we didn’t want to conduct this annual campaign simultaneously with the capital campaign effort last fall.

The results of the Building Blocks capital campaign have been very good! We are 76% of the way to our goal for building improvement and enhancement. Now is the time to move forward with the stewardship campaign.

The 2023 effort uses Micah 6:8 as our focus scripture: “What does the Lord require of you, but to Do Justice, Love Kindness, and Walk Humbly with your God.” Our resources are divided between Doing Justice, Loving Kindness, and Walking Humbly with God.

If you have already made your commitment and submitted your pledge, then thank you. Your effort will contribute to what we are able to do this year.

If you have not made this commitment, then consider making your pledge towards this effort today. It is only by joining together, that we will be able to provide the ministry that is possible.
