Dr. Blount is a graduate of William and Mary University (B.A.), Princeton Theological Seminary (M.Div.) and Emory University (Ph.D.). Professor Blount’s primary work has been in the Gospel of Mark, the Book of Revelation and in the area of cultural studies and hermeneutics. His most recent book is Invasion of the Dead: Preaching Resurrection. He has authored five other books and contributed numerous essays and articles to collections and journals. In addition to his scholarship and leadership, he preaches and teaches regularly in local churches.
Dr. Blount shares this message with the Fondren Presbyterian community: On Theological Education Sunday, it seems appropriate for this theological educator to do what he has taught his students to do. That is, to preach from the designated lectionary text for a Sunday morning even when that text is difficult. On Sunday morning, Brian will preach what he teaches—from what on the surface is a rather challenging text. Read the scripture ahead of time—Luke 16:1-13. How would you preach it? Keep your sermon in mind as Brian preaches his.
Plan to come and welcome Dr. Blount!
