Joel's Jottings: Thank You

This past Sunday I was speechless at the close of worship.

As we were sharing the Lord's Prayer, Jim Pitts walked down the aisle to the communion table. On behalf of you, the congregation of Fondren Presbyterian Church, he presented Vicki and me two wonderful pieces of McCarty pottery! One is an Advent Wreath and the other a wonderful tray. They are lovely pieces. What is even lovelier is the spirit in which you have shared them.

It has been such a wonderful privilege to walk with you this past year and a half as your interim pastor. You are a talented band of Jesus followers with a deep and rich story. You focus not only on what was, but you are also concerned for what is now and the possibilities of what will be.

Pastoral transition is always a challenge. It is never easy. Yet you have leaned into it and deepened your commitment to serve. Your willingness to take on a major renovation in this time speaks to a hope that goes deep into your collective soul.

Any pastor would be blessed to have shared this time with you. I thank God that Vicki and I have been able to be here.

The gift of McCarty pottery is a special one. It speaks to something unique and beautiful from this state. Every time we use the Advent wreath and share from the tray, we will recall the manifold graces you shared with us. Indeed, each time we use them we will be blessed again.

With deep appreciation, affection, and gratitude,

Joel
