We at Fondren Presbyterian Church believe that hospitality is the foundation of meaningful fellowship. We encourage visitors to share with us all of God’s blessings in a warm, open, and intergenerational environment. Fondren offers many opportunities for such fellowship. We gather every Wednesday evening for dinner and a program. We come together every second Sunday of the month to share lunch. We gather in one another’s homes for dinner and conversation. We also offer fellowship opportunities through outreach activities such as building homes for Habitat for Humanity, cleaning community parks, and preparing and delivering meals to the needy. Please take a moment to review our fellowship opportunities.
Many Fondren activities revolve around good food, and guests are always welcome. The Wednesday Night Supper/Program is perhaps Fondren's most intentional fellowship gathering. Members and guests gather at 6:00 P.M. for a delicious meal. After the meal, we spend a few minutes reviewing the ongoing activities of the church, sharing information, and praying for members, relatives, neighbors, and friends. A program follows—anything from a Bible study to a robust discussion of community affairs to an art lecture or hands-on crafts. On the first Wednesday of the month, we enjoy supper as usual, and committee meetings follow. Those who wish may stay for a second cup of coffee and good conversation.
On the Second Sunday, we gather after worship for a delicious catered lunch hosted by one of our Sunday School classes or church committees. Often there are so many of us that we fill the Fellowship Hall and overflow into the library and parlor. First-time visitors are our guests. Please join us.
Other fellowship opportunities abound: The Fall Family Retreat at Twin Lakes Conference Center offers the chance to recharge our batteries and refresh our souls. Typically, we arrive on a Friday night in time for dinner in the dining hall followed by a bonfire with stories, camp songs and s’mores before retreating to our cabins. Saturday is filled with prayerful reflection and fun for adults and children. At Christmas, we climb aboard the Fondren Trolley and go caroling, visiting our shut-in members and brightening their season—and ours—with song. Dinners for Eight are small groups of Fondren members who gather in homes or restaurants for food and fellowship at times determined by the individual groups. These intentionally diverse groups change from time to time to enable different members to get to know each other in an informal setting. And at the Third Tuesday Ladies' Luncheon, Fondren women get together at a restaurant of their choice to enjoy good food and friendships.
Since fellowship involves caring for each other and for those outside the walls of Fondren, explore the Congregational Care and Outreach sections of the web site to learn more about ways in which we extend Fondren’s nurturing love and hospitality.
