Building Blocks: "The Waters of Baptism"

Fondren Presbyterian’s baptismal font.

Last week, Rev. Alvis received an email from a Presbyterian minister in Texas who reported a recent conversation with someone who lived near the minister. Somehow Fondren Presbyterian came up in the conversation, and it was revealed that the neighbor was baptized at the church. The man shared how Fondren’s witness was very important to him.

The Sacrament of Baptism is a sign of God’s covenant. Through baptism we are linked with the waters of creation, the flood, and the exodus from Egypt. Baptism symbolizes God’s creative power, cleansing power, and redemptive power that carries on from generation to generation. No matter where we are baptized, we are connected to the faith of God in Christ

Baptism recognizes that God’s grace is so strong that nothing can negate it. No one fully understands how God’s redemption and reconciliation are fully at work, yet baptism testifies that this process is ongoing.

The Building Blocks campaign includes sanctuary repairs and renovations. Other renovations include the replacement of the HVAC system and enhancements to the Fellowship Hall and public areas of the church building

The ministry of Jesus Christ through Fondren Presbyterian Church is not only what happens in the building but includes the church’s relationships within the community through worship, fellowship, education, and service. It all begins with baptism—not just a theological explanation for baptism but with the baptism of each and every member, no matter where it happened.

Give thanks for your baptism and the place where it happened. In gratitude for what you received and in hope for the future of the Christian faith at Fondren Presbyterian Church, consider making a contribution to the Building Blocks Campaign.
